A committed physician and a leading advocate for women's rights, Ghada Hatem has dedicated her life to supporting women whom society too often chooses to overlook.
Born in Lebanon and trained in France, she first served as Head of the Maternity Department at Les Bluets Hospital, before leading departments at Bégin Hospital and Saint-Denis Hospital.
In 2016, she founded the Women’s House of Saint-Denis (La Maison des Femmes de Saint-Denis). To bring this project to life, she gradually secured the support of public institutions, local authorities, and private foundations, rallying political leaders and committed philanthropists around her vision. A hybrid model then emerged, funded through both public and private resources. Ghada Hatem demonstrated extraordinary determination, driven by a profound commitment: creating practical solutions where none previously existed.
Through the Women’s House, she has placed medicine at the heart of a mission: to protect, heal, and help rebuild the lives of women affected by violence. This pioneering center offers comprehensive support, including medical, psychological, and legal assistance. Domestic violence, sexual violence, female genital mutilation, and forced marriage are among the issues it addresses through a compassionate and pragmatic approach.
Her model has since expanded and become a benchmark in both France and Belgium. Her work has recently been highlighted on the big screen through the film La Maison des Femmes, starring Karin Viard, which sheds light on the importance and impact of this initiative.
During this event, Ghada Hatem will speak openly about the various forms of violence against women. Her testimony promises to be both powerful and thought-provoking, offering an essential call to awareness and action.
