This month, the Curiosity Club is chatting with Mallika Parekh, a health & wellness expert, & the owner of Physique 57 India, a barre-based workout that originated in New York and launched in Mumbai in 2018.
Mallika has double masters in Biomedical Science and Public Health, & has spent her career researching medical science & helping hospitals in the United States implement best practices to increase clinical efficiency.
Born and raised in the United States, Mallika was already passionate about Physique 57. The signature Physique 57 method blends cardio, strength training, stretching and recovery to create long, lean, and sculpted muscles.
During her various trips to India, Mallika realized through her own research that there is an acute lack of emphasis on bone and muscle health in Indian culture and medicine. This was a disconcerting discovery, given that Indians have a lower bone density than most other populations worldwide. She noticed that anti-aging trends in India focus on skincare regimens, cosmetic procedures & diet, but don’t always highlight the importance of healthy bone and muscle. She knew then, that Physique 57’s revolutionary fitness method would have a place in India.
Mallika discusses how the Physique 57 method is designed to meet you where you are in your fitness journey. It is a low-impact and rehabilitative form of exercise that combines the most effective elements of cardio, strength training and stretching effectively to redefine one’s body from the very first class. Anyone, whether you are a fitness novice, recovering from an injury or pregnancy, pregnant, or a professional athlete can benefit from Physique 57.
A long-term, sustainable form of fitness that is result oriented, backed by science and empowers women is what Physique 57 brings to the Indian fitness landscape. Mallika is thrilled to have brought this proven-effective workout program to the country of her roots, as a part of her continuing lifelong commitment to improving access to preventative and quality health care.
